The meeting was brought to order by Supervisor Moraska. The following Board members were present: Jim Moraska, Cherryl Mencinger, Jerry Bartnicki. David LeBoeuf, and Kevin LaBonte. Guests included: Jim Nowack, Dan Hammerberg, John Anderson, and Gerald Kleiman.

APPROVAL OF THE AGENDA:
The motion was made by Jerry to approve the agenda with Kevin supporting. All in favor, Motion carried.
All bills are up to date. A motion was made to accept the Clerks Report by Kevin and was seconded by Jerry. David and Kevin looked over the expense statements. Minutes of the monthly meetings can be viewed on the Township website located at www.powers-spalding.org Motion approved.
Jerry gave the financial hand out showing the Township’s monthly balances and went over the report. A motion to accept the treasurer’s report was made by David and seconded by Cherryl. All in favor, Aye. Motion approved.
Both taverns and one grocery store in the township are current for July, no issues were reported.
FIRE REPORT/FIRE CHIEF & FIRE DEPT:
The Department responded to 6 calls costing $0 dollars in losses and spending at total of 3 hours and 57 minutes.

Subject: Memo #1Grants
The grant was to purchase/upgrade/replace the pump and engine on brush truck #4 for $4500.00. This is a 50/50 matching grant.
Working on completion of final paperwork for this grant.
Dan submitted the grant for the Engine #1 replacement in the amount of $350,000.00. If awarded our share will be $16,666.00.
No word on the award announcement.
Rich had applied for two Hannahville Grants for the fire department.
- Rich applied for a grant in March for a generator, lights, and equipment for truck 5. We were awarded $2500.00. We are still working on purchases for the grant.
Dan applied for the Enbridge Grant for $4464.00 for the Milwaukee tools, lights, and saw. I should hear something hopefully before the next meeting. The website stated they would make their determination within 45 days of submission. The grant request was submitted on March 22, 2019. I was notified July 14ththat our grant request was not funded.
Subject: Memo #2Purchase Request
We are asking permission to purchase two “Emergency Vehicles Only” signs for the front driveway to replace the ones which were run over by the snowmobile this winter.
- CEMETERY/PARK REPORT:
Two moreburials this week and one more coming up. Gerald got the flags up for the Fourth of July and the cemetery looked good.
Park, The additional parts for the playground came in and Jim installed them.
ASSESSOR’S REPORT:John Anderson presented his assessor’s report.

RESOLUTION ON LAND DIVISION
A special meeting was called by the MTA to inform the Townships on this Land Division Resolution on June 27th. David LeBoeuf attended for Spalding Township. David presented the information he learned from the meeting and presented it to the Spalding Township Board. The Spalding Township Board felt that the $250.00 fee was too high. It was recommended we approve this resolution. A motion was made to approve this resolution by Jerry and seconded by David. Motion carried. A roll call vote was taken. Roll Call Vote: Jim, yes, Cherryl, yes, Jerry, yes, David, yes. Kevin, yes. Motion approved.
PLAYGROUND INSTALLATION UPDATE
48 people were at the Park Saturday to help assemblethe equipment and 17 on Sunday. Spalding Township would like to express a BIG THANK YOU to all the wonderful people that came together as a community to help put this playground equipment together. The kids in the area are loving it…Thank You again.
The payment has been paid to the Road Commission to start these repairs on LaBelle Rd. It was stated that it will be done the end of September.
WALKING TRAIL UPDATE
All the paperwork is done. The township is now waiting for reimbursement.
CAROL WELCH (WATER AUTHORITY)
The Village Board would like to restructure the Powers/Spalding Water Authority Board. To be able to move forward with this request the Village Board needs approval from Spalding Township Board and Pinecrest Board. A motion was made to approve incorporating the Water Authority Board relinquishing the Township. The motion was made by David and seconded by Jerry. Motion carried.

They collected 18 pints of blood.
OLD DUMP REPORT
Gerald cut the old dump over the weekend.
INTERVIEW FOR ESCANABA DAILY PRESS W/CLARISSA KELL 7-11-2019
The Daily Press came to the Township and interviewed our people about our new playground equipment.
We had 3 new building permit applications. One for a roof, 1 for a warehouse and 1 for a new chimney.
MARIJUANA OPT OUT
It was decided to table this until our next Board Meeting.
USDA GRANT FUNDING
As part of the disaster relief act, the U.S. Dept of Agriculture Rural Development has made addition grant funding available for communities in Houghton, Gogebic and Menominee Counties, This funding specifically targets equipment and vehicles.
