SPALDING TOWNSHIP These minutes are approved
POWERS, MICHIGAN 49874

The meeting was brought to order by Clerk Mencinger. The following Board members were present: Jerry Bartnicki, Cherryl Mencinger, and Kevin LaBonte, James Moraska and Chris LeBoeuf were absent. Guests included: Jim Nowack, Gerald Kleiman, and Herman Kleiman
Herman Kleiman attended our meeting to express his concern about his neighbor. Trash is accumulating in his yard and maggots are everywhere. The yard is full of garbage and stinks. It’s not a very good representation of our community. The Township has a blight ordinance to address this issue and Mr. Kleiman’s neighbor will be receiving a letter in this regard.

Subject: Memo #1 Grants
Dan did apply for 2 dual band portable radios as first priority and one dual band portable radio as a second priority. We finally received the award announcement. We received the grant for $3140.00 which is half of the 50-50 matching grant. The documents have been signed and returned to the DNR. The radios are in. Still waiting on the programming plugs for the radios to be programmed.
We did receive an application for the 2022 VFA DNR grant. I did submit the grant application for various hand tools and equipment in the total amount of approximately $4500.00. Waiting on the award announcement.
Dan submitted the grant for FY2020 in the same amount as last year of $375,000.00 to replace Engine 1 and equipment. Our matching portion if awarded will be $17,857.14. Waiting on the award announcement.
Memo #2 Purchase Request
The members present are asking permission to purchase hydrant gate valve to be affixed to the fill pipe in the station. The current ball valve is difficult to operate and is leaking slightly. The ball valve would stay in place, the hydrant gate valve would be an addition to the piping. This valve will also allow/require a slower close and stop to the water which will help to not damage the water system. The approximate cost of this fitting is $1400.00 and the fitting will last for a very long time. Asking for approval to purchase the hydrant gate fitting. A motion was made by Kevin and supported by Jerry to purchase the valve.
Grass has been slowing down a little, no burials for this month, Jim Nowack stated that things are slowing down at the park as well.
