The meeting was brought to order by Supervisor Moraska. The following Board members were present: Jim Moraska, Jerry Bartnicki, Cherryl Mencinger, and Chris LeBoeuf . Guests included: Jim Nowack, Dan Hammerberg, Randy Viau, Gerald Kleiman, and Leon Felch.
PUBLIC COMMENT:
No public comment
APPROVAL OF THE AGENDA:
The motion was made by Chris to approve the agenda with Cherryl supporting.
CLERKS REPORT:
All bills are up to date. A motion was made to accept the Clerks Report by Chris and was seconded by Jerry. Chris looked over the expense statements. Minutes of the monthly meetings can be viewed on the Township website located at www.powers-spalding.org
TREASURERS REPORT:
Jerry gave the financial hand out showing the Township’s monthly balances and went over the report. A motion to accept the treasurer’s report was made by Jim and seconded by Chris.
LIQUOR REPORT:
All is well at both taverns and at the grocery store for January.
FIRE REPORT/FIRE CHIEF & FIRE DEPT:
The Department responded to 3 calls costing 0 dollars in losses and spending a total of 2 hours and 50 minutes. 2 memos were submitted.

Subject: Memo #1 Grants
2022 AFG Grant
The grant application period is open for the 2022 AFG Grant. I am asking permission to apply for a new engine as I have in the previous years. A motion was made by Jim and seconded by Chris, motion carried.Subject: Memo #2 Membership Application
Fabian Chartier has made application to the department. Fabian is Owen Chartier’s brother and Nell Chartier’s son. He is willing to take the training necessary to become a certified firefighter. The membership present at the January business meeting recommend the board hire Mr. Chartier as a volunteer firefighter. A motion was made to hire Fabian by Jerry and seconded by Chris, motion carried. Welcome aboard Fabian, glad to have you.
CEMETERY/PARK REPORT:
Gerald questioned if people could sell their Cemetery spaces of do they have to go through the Township. They have to go through the Township so we have notification.
Jim stated that nothing is new at the Park.
ASSESSOR’S REPORT:
Personal property statements were mailed out, they went out January 2nd. The notice of assessment will go out the middle of January. Board of Review is schedule for 3/7/2023 for the organizational meeting, March 13th from 9-3 and March 16th, from 3-9.
SHERIFF’S REPORT:

OLD BUSINESS:
PARK PLATFORM
Two contractors have picked up the forms needed to build the platform, The Township is waiting for them to reply.
GENERATOR
Chris has researched this and went through a company in Marquette that came here and took measurements to give us a quote. They emailed us this quote and it was $17,500. This would not only help the Township but in a long term outage, it would be a place to get warm. The Township added a few changes so we would like an updated quote.
NEW BUSINESS:
ROAD PLAN
The meeting is Jan 25th, 2023 to discuss what roads we are going to repair in 2023. The Township is looking toward crushing gravel for future use.
SALARY REVIEW
Jim reviewed future salary raises for the Township. Jim has been working on budgeting for 2023-2024. The budget needs to be changed if necessary in Feb because in March it has to be turned in and it’s too late to make any changes.
ANNUAL ROAD COMMISSION MEETING
This was discussed earlier in the minutes.
CPA CONTRACT
Mr. Rennie submitted a more recent contract and the Board approved the more recent contract for the increased rate.
MOTION TO PAY THE BILLS (ROLL CALL VOTE)
Motion was made to pay the bills by Chris and seconded by Jerry, Motion approved. Roll Call Vote: Jim, yes, Cherryl, yes, Jerry, yes, Chris, yes, Motion approved.
PUBLIC COMMENT
Dan is requesting to use the Township conference room in Feb for his National Fire class. Jim said to put it on our calendar.
